Almost looks nice here

Almost looks nice here

We would be jealous but the lake is so polluted that they would prefer we not even look at it lest we get struck down with some form of exotic illness. The photo almost makes it look like this is a nice place. Do not be deceived by this, TQ is actually not a nice place. Thats not to say that there are not nice places in Iraq....I'm sure there are some places here that are quite lovely. Apparently these places make for really bad places to put military installations though. I think that they are worried that a pleasant environment might blunt the warrior ethos. Not that I am bitter....really. I had no expectations of leisurely boat rides down the Tigris or fishing trips of lake Habbaniyah. I am just wondering if it would kill them to burn the trash OUTSIDE the camp somewhere.

As you can tell there is not too much going on at the moment here at TQ. We are almost done with our 4th month in Theatre. If we manage to get out of here a little early like the unit we replaced that means we have a little less then 8 months left. It also means the we are preaty much at the halfway point of the deployment. This is good news....its all downhill from here!

That is a beautiful picture! The MAJ agrees with you about how things are not as beautiful as they seem there.

I wanted to update you on the MAJ! He had his surgery on Monday, February 27th and was released on Tuesday, February 28th. The doctor said that everything went well. He has to report back at Ft. Lewis on the 17th of March. He also has to wear a neck collar. . . as you can imagine that is easier said than done!

The doctor is hoping that this helps his lumbar also. If not he will have to go back in for that surgery also.

We wanted to thank one and all for the thoughts and prayers. John please let the guys know that the MAJ is thinking about you all and was exstatic to hear you used the BBQ pit.

One more thing. . . you are going to be getting a package from my cousin Shelly Martin! I hope it has lots of things that you guys can use!
