Ft Bliss reunion at the Famous Pearl in Doha
Here is a photo of a little reunion from our training days at Ft Bliss. The people in the picture next to me are SGT Campos, MSG Newbill, COL Boyd and SSG Galbreth. We are standing in front of the giant Pearl which is a prominent monument to Qatars early source of wealth.
Well I am back at work after my little vacation and of course my days and nights are all messed up again. Thats ok though, its nothing 5 or 6 cups of coffee and some red bulls cant fix. My last day in Qatar I was really bummed because I did not want to come back to TQ. Now that I am back it is good to be back "home". There is some comfort in familiar surroundings and people. My first visit back to the chow hall was entertaining because it iss Easter which means that the Indidan workers pulled out the virgin mary statue again and gave her another makeover so this time she is an angel playing a violin. I have no idea how the violin fits with Easter but hey, they try. This is what you get when hindus do the decorating for Christian holidays. It is always fun to see when the virgin mary statue will show up. She has made visits in several different outfits and poses for Christmas, New Years, St Patricks day and now Easter. I can hardly wait to see what she dresses up as for the 4th of july.
In other news we finally got a concert here at TQ and as befits our status as the forgotten FOB we got a chart topping current pop star. Yes thats right folks, apparently Charlie Daniels is still alive and kicking. From the reports I recieved about the show he is old enough that he had to sit down several times during the show however. All kidding aside though I appreciate him and what he does for the troops. He has been doing USO shows for a long time, way before it became trendy again after 9/11 to do so. I ran into him coming out of the Chow hall and he is a very nice man. So thanks Charlie!

Sure missed your blogs when you couldn't post. We may not always comment, but we do always read and enjoy your perspective on what you are experiencing. The information that you provide is as valuable and probably more reliable than what we get from the news services, because we know where it's coming from. Thank you, Mike & Kathy
Well my time over here has lead me to hate the media more then ever so I am glad I can help. =) There are of course a lot of things I would love to share but I like being a NCO and not in Leavenworth.

John, This is SPC Gibbys Dad. I saw Charlie back ijn the 70s in Boise. I am not a country fan but he sure fiddle back then. The local Bosie band played orange Blossom Special and Charlie did also. No comparision. Charlie shut them down.
Say hi to Chris for me.
